Here are some facts about replacing your windows:
FACT 1: Most window issues are due to improper or poor exterior flashing. All new windows must be properly flashed and sealed from the outside.
All pocket or full frame replacement windows need an add-one exterior capping/casing to protect the new window and the wall frame. It must be caulked and maintained over time.
The full-frame nail fin flange window is highly recommended.
FACT 2: Energy Star studies show that replacing single-pane windows with double pane can save between 21% and 31% off of heating and cooling costs.
FACT 3: Most of the window and door openings are NOT insulated properly. Adding insulation around your windows will help make your home more comfortable and save you money on monthly energy bills (more than the new window itself). The best insulation for stopping drafts around windows will be a material that keeps air from leaking around the frame. The most used insulation materials are fiberglass and window spray foam insulation. It is critical to apply the right amount of insulation. Over-insulation will create problems in installing the new windows and finish moldings. The foam insulation also helps to secure the window onto the framing.
FACT 4: Original/prior window or window opening will NOT be a perfect fit with the new windows. There are many unforeseen factors after the window and molding are removed. The existing trims may not fit or be reused. Some drywall repairs and painting may require. Please be aware of potential issues and budget accordingly for an additional cost.
